This house is another effort to link bedrooms and the livingroom to outdoor gardens. Each features glass walls that open upon a garden surrounded by a grass berm and 'floating' masonry enclosure. Landscaping including ponds is accenuated within these walls. The garden plane lies just below the bedroom window sill which is about the height of the desktops within the bedroom. The real enclosure for the bedrooms is the brick wall surrounding the garden. In other words, the gardens becomes a part of the bedrooms and living room. Inspiration for this concept came from my appreciation of small Oriental window gardens that often were attached to a single room. I have expanded upon that idea. |
